In the latest issue of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight" Buffy finally gets a chance to experience a little bit of the crazy college life she missed out on by dropping out to save the world, again. That's right, Buffy joined the ranks of the heteroflexible as she fell into bed with fellow slayer, Satsu.

Now, I can't bring myself to actually read the comic books no matter how much I love this television series, my brain just isn't wired for comics. I do have to admit that this makes me smile a little.

The brilliant Joss Whedon made it clear that this isn't some big turning point for the character: "We're not going to make her gay, nor are we going to take the next 50 issues explaining that she's not," explained Whedon. "She's young and experimenting, and did I mention open-minded?"

Good for Buffy. Good for Whedon. Probably good for sales too.

Audacia Ray Returns!

Returning for a guest spot on HotMoviesForHer.com this week, the sexpert extrodinaire hits on the history of bi porn, the stigmas attached and what she's doing to bring bi back.

I was not a porn consumer or seeker when I was a teenager. Though I was sexually precocious and promiscuous in many ways, porn wasn’t really on my radar. In fact, when a high school friend found me on MySpace recently and discovered that I’d become a porn director, he was pretty surprised. But since I’m a bit of an extremist, when I began to explore porn, I really did it up. And I wanted to find porn that was like me – bisexual.

At my first job in sex, I lucked into a treasure trove of porn with obsessively categorized videos, magazines, and mementos: the Ralph Wittington Collection at the Museum of Sex. I started as a researcher at the Museum and then became an assistant curator the year it opened – and in addition to jump-starting my career as a sex nerd, being exposed (ahem) to the wealth of smut in the Wittington collection plus meeting a delightful array of sex industry legends got me started on my own personal journey.

Among the carefully labeled boxes that contained videos in plastic archival boxes, polaroids of enthusiastic collector Ralph Wittington with a variety of stars, and a smattering of creepy flesh-colored sex toys was a box labeled “bisexual.” The contents were a bunch of Paul Norman films – the “Bi and Beyond” series that kicked off in 1988. The late 1980s through the mid-1990s were apparently the heyday for bisexual porn – if a heyday can be considered somewhat prolific production from one director.

I was a bit puzzled – this bisexual porn seemed to be kind of a crappy afterthought (even in it’s heyday). The main thing that distinguishes bi porn –then and today- from straight porn is the fact that men touch each other in it; porn with girl on girl action is essentially considered straight. And no one bats an eye if a female performer who does scenes with other women says she’s straight; but guys who do scenes with other guys are thought of as gay gay gay, whatever they call themselves...

L is for Leather

Over the course of this past weekend, I read the latest book in Alison Tyler’s erotic alphabet series, L is for Leather and was introduced to a whole new world! I’m not a leather girl, but maybe I should be.

This small book features an eclectic collection of stories that are sure to send you running for the neglected leather gloves in the back of your closet. What really impressed me was the variety of stories Tyler compiled in exploring this fetish.

I was drawn in by Radclyffe’s “Skin-Flick Sex” which tells the tale of a delivery girl who is caught sneaking a peek at a gay porn shoot by a production assistant. I’ve never been to a porn shoot, and always assumed one would be about as sexy as my Great Aunt’s underpants, but when you add the danger of getting caught watching and an aggressive butch to the mix, I’m sold! I’ve enjoyed other piece’s by Radclyffe who definitely has a way with words - “She was hard, would always be hard, would give it to me hard, as deep and as long as I needed it.” - need I say any more?

Kate Pearce’s “Sunday Service” is also worth noting, as she tells the tale of a war widow who is kept in check by an aggressive ranch manager with a thing for leather. Pearce makes me want to move to Montana, or at least buy a beer for the next girl I see with a big ole’ belt buckle.

If you’re deep into the scene, or just curious about what your old leather belt might sound like smacking across you lover’s tender flesh, you’re sure to find something in this brief but bountiful compilation.

And, while I’ve only had the chance to read two books in this series, I am certain you will find the rest are just as fantastic because Tyler has an eye for great erotica. The series covers everything from, well, just A-L, right now…but I’m sure you’ll find plenty steamy stories as Tyler works her way towards Z. Oh, and if anyone is interested, I’m thinking Z is for Zaftig!

Sex and Disability Finally Gets Some Facetime

When it comes to sex, there are a bunch of things that no one ever talks about. Stuff that's taboo, stuff that's embarassing or awkward, or stuff that's just not the "norm," whatever that hell even means when it comes to sex. What it really comes down to is that people are hestitant to talk about things that aren't there own experiences, especially if its linked to something wholy undiscussed in the first place. Enter sex and disability. You'd think we were talking about risque furry acts involving fire breathing and crack pipes, the way that the people's eyes get all big when you mention sex and disability in the same sentence. Get over it people. Sexuality is "normal" and "right" for everybody, be it the 90 year-old woman over here or with quadripalegic over there. Just because your body functions differently than some, it doesn't mean you are non-sexual or uninterested. Just the way it is.

Sorry for the rant. I'm quick to hop on my soapbox when I think a topic is super important and rarely dicussed. Anyway, lets get to the point here. Photographer Belinda Mason-Lovering is taking her amazingly intimate images of sex and disability (apt named ‘Intimate Encounters: Disability and Sexuality’) back on the road, hitting New Zealand. Check it out below.

Internationally acclaimed photographic exhibition ‘Intimate Encounters: Disability and Sexuality’ by photographer Belinda Mason-Lovering will tour New Zealand.

These forty photographic works are the culmination of two years work by Belinda Mason-Lovering where she travelled around Australia to meet disabled people who were willing to share their thoughts and feelings and have them translated into these wonderful images.
The exhibition is “Eye opening, inspirational and beautiful in its honest representation of the diversity of human sexuality.” (Jeni Claris, DPA Northland President)

Since starting to promote this event there has already been some controversy over the exhibition. We have had very strong opinions both positive and negative. Whilst most people can see the value of initiating discussion around sexuality and disability there have been some people that find even the promotional material offensive even though they are unable to say why.

Tiaho Trust in association with DPA Northland and sponsored by Henderson Reeves Connell Rishworth Lawyers has brought this exhibition over from Australia and it is making its New Zealand touring début in Whangarei, Northland.

Intimate Encounters which has toured New York, London, Barcelona and also Australia, will be on display at the Whangarei Community Arts Centre Building from 7 March 2008 for four weeks and will then tour New Zealand.

Break-ups suck. There really are no two ways about that. Even if you both knew it was wrong and you're both relieved to kick each other to the curb, deep down there is usually even the smallest twinge of sadness. Breaking up is hard to do, and radio reporter Kathleen Horan knows it first-hand. So she created relationshipobit.com, a Web site where the recently broken-hearted can write an obituary for the love they just lost.

"Most people go through break-ups at some point in their life, and it's hard because you have to let go of the number one person in your life," she said. "Writing an obituary for that dead relationship is like putting the final nail in the coffin."

The relationship obituaries are written just like a regular obituary, and include a cause of death, the survivors of the failed coupling, and any famous last words, like the classic excuse: "It's not you, it's me."

What do you think is the biggest misconception about women in the industry?

There are so many misconceptions about women in the industry. All the women I’ve met are very sweet and very smart. This is a business and the women I’ve met are all goal oriented and have a very entrepreneurial spirit about them.

It's been snowing since I woke up this morning, and while I'm not looking forward to shoveling, the uniform whiteness outside my window is incredibly soothing. I thought I'd pick a song that reflects that, and one of my favorite lay back and stare at the ceiling albums is Carla Bruni's Quelqu'un m'a dit.

Of course, I had no idea who Mrs. Sarkozy was when I plucked this cd out of a pile of promo discs years ago. That's right, the woman singing this beautiful song is a former supermodel best known for dating rock gods Eric Clapton and Mick Jagger and is now the first lady of France. It's caused a bit of an uproar, but I'm all about hot chicks who have the balls to stand up and say they don't really believe in monogamy.

There’s been a lot in the news lately about these Ivy League students who are running sex mags, but not getting any action. Well, I just finished up with Boink, the first book from the editors of the Boston University magazine devoted to college sex, and I have to stand up and say somebody is getting laid properly on campuses across the country.

First, let me say that this is a gorgeous book. I read a lot of smut and it does not look like this. Throughout, there are gorgeous pictorials that feature people who could have sat in the same lecture hall as you. I mean, they’re good looking people, but it’s weird, because they look real! Besides the erotic pictures, you’ll find that each story is illustrated with cartoons, adding to the visual appeal of Boink.

Next up are the literary pieces, which vary greatly in content, but are consistently good throughout. You’ll find pieces that cover almost the entire spectrum of possible sexualities and stories that touch on everything between lust and love. Some are funny, some are sad, all are quality.

I’m drawn between a few, but my favorite is titled “The Wager” by Eva. It’s the story of a g/g/b threesome where the women wield an incredible amount of power and, because of this, everyone has a great time. In the end, our hero is begging to cum and the women are quite pleased with themselves. It makes me wish I knew more about the author than that her name is Eva and she attended a Large Private University, so I could read more.

Not every piece could even be considered erotica. There’s an interesting piece about bisexuality and a hilarious “anthropological essay” discussing the mating habits of Choches and Sorostitutes. I wasn’t familiar with the term Choch, but could easily relate to the description of an Axe wearing, collar popping tool when I read it and couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

While this book is obviously being marketed towards the college crowd, I enjoyed even eight years after graduating. I’ll probably never share a twin bed with a stranger again, but I can still relate to the tales shared by students across the country.

Jamye Waxman Interviews Abiola Abrams

I just finished reading Jamye Waxman's interview with Afrodite Superstar director Abiola Abrams and had to bring it to your attention. In it Abrams, who used the pseudonym Venus Hottentot until now, discusses why she's coming out as the director and how working on this project left her with a sense of empowerment.

Abiola Abrams: People tell me that this is such a fun and moving film to watch. Apparently the writers of the new Ivy League sex mags aren't getting laid. News break!

As the writer of a blog called Sex and the Ivy, student promotes herself as something of an authority on sex. The 20-year-old sociology major is a minor celebrity around campus for her musings on hook-ups, booty calls and friends with benefits. So Chen, as self-appointed poster girl for what could be called a group of brainy girls gone wild, was an obvious choice to document a week's worth of conquests for a national magazine's online sex diary. Except for the tallies at the end of the week: Total acts of intercourse? Zero.

Chen says she's since broken her dry spell, but the episode illustrates a paradox of modern college life: students are publicly documenting their sex lives more than ever, making it easy to get the impression that elite campuses are an equivalent of the sex club in "Eyes Wide Shut," with a perfect SAT score as the password. But when it comes to actual sexual activity, statistics show that coeds are more likely to be virgins when they enter college, and may be having slightly less sex than in previous years.

What do you expect? When do these people have time to get laid? Between studying to maintain their Ivy League grades and running their highly popular sex mags and blog, who the hell has enough energy to muster up a good fuck? I mean really. And lets not forget about the pressure. Once everyone expect you to be getting laid all the time, you are bound to a) intimidate potential partners so it's harder to find a fuck; b) have engaged Murphy's Law that everything ironic will happen and now that you are sancitioned by all to have raunchy sex with whoever, you are stuck in dry spell-ville, or c) have talked about sex so fucking much that you want nothing to do with it, least of all try to live up to some crappy expectation other people put on you. I'm just sayin'.

Same damn thing happens when you are a sex writer and human sexuality student. Everyone expects you to be screwing 24/7 or recounting the hot new postion to fuck in. But really all you want to do it talk about Project Runway or go knit a scarf. Anything but talk about sex at all. But that's just me talking.

Here's to getting laid instead of writing a paper.

Yep, it's Valentine's Day. Whoopty-freakin-do. Although I am an unattached singleton, I wouldn't necessarily say that is why I think Valentine's Day is kind of a crock. Even when I was happily paired up and starry-eyed, I still though the idea of a specific holiday to be lovey dovey and thoughtful totally defeated the purpose of love in the first place. Not that I know what love is, but I know it sure doesn't come in an oversized box of chocolates from CVS or a Hallmark commercial.

Anyway, Snippy Suzie aside, I'm here to say that bein' in love is good stuff and even though I'm not participating in any Valentine's Day celebration, here is a round up of recent stuff that will hopefully get you in the mood for this calendar day carved out for lovin'. Kim Wallen, professor of psychology and behavioral neuroendocrinology at Emory University, is busy doing the math to find out. And, yes, he says, simple physiology may have a lot to do with orgasm ease -- specifically, how far a woman's clitoris lies from her vagina.

That number might predict how easily a woman can experience orgasms from penile stimulation alone -- without help from fingers, toys or tongue -- during sexual intercourse.

Wow. I wish I had been this cool in 9th grade.

Wood River, IL (KMOV) - Two students at a Metro-East junior high school have stirred up quite a bit of controversy after wearing t-shirts that they say are making a point.

The t-shirts were made by Tori Shoemaker, 15 and Cheyenne Byrd, 14.

The teens went back to school Wednesday after being told to stay home for wearing their two homemade shirts that caused the stir at Lewis and Clark Junior High School.

The shirts proclaimed a "safe sex or no sex" slogan and were decorated with packaged condoms.

The students wanted to prove a point since there is an abstinence only curriculum at Lewis and Clark.

The two teens however were suspended for two days for wearing the t-shirts.

The superintendent told News 4 that he considers the shirts were inappropriate and a distraction at school.

At least one parent tells News 4 that he supports his daughter.

It seems that school officials will not budge on changing what is taught, and the girls won't stop speaking out.

Screaming Octopus

You are not going to believe how freaking adorable the Screaming Octopus is! This is the first vibrator I’ve had that looks like something besides a vibrator, unless you count my cell phone, which looks a lot like a cell phone. An Italian urologist and self-professed lover of the sexy shoe set out to prove that high heels were not as bad for women's health as some suggest.

The shoe has been linked to a range of problems - from corns to schizophrenia.

But in a letter to European Urology, Dr Maria Cerruto said her research showed it was time to stand up for the heel.

She said her study of 66 women under 50 found that those who held their foot at a 15 degree angle to the ground - the equivalent of a two inch heel - had as good posture as those who wore flat shoes, and crucially showed less electrical activity in their pelvic muscles.

This suggested the muscles were at an optimum position, which could well improve their strength and ability to contract.

Yeah, I'm blogging from home, what of it?? Even after I clock out for the day, I still keep my web trollin' eyes pealed for good stuff to post. And of course I continue to read Jezebel when I get home - clearly I don't get enough time in front of the computer during the day. Jellyfish

Some people love sex toys that are shaped like animals or have adorable, cuddly faces. I am not one of those people. I prefer my toys to be a little less cutesy. While the Jellyfish dildo is, in fact, shaped like Jellyfish resting atop a post, with it’s squiggly tentacles coming down to form a textured layer around the shaft, it is not quite what I would call cute. I admit that I went into testing this toy with a little bit of bias. I generally like my dildos to look nothing like the “real thing” and this cock was all too realistic, with it’s “Caucasian” coloring, detailed glans and textured veins (though the blue “veins” looked like awful prison tattoos). And I can’t forget to mention the fleshy feel of Cyberskin.

This was my first experience with Cyberskin, and while I was intrigued by the squishy smoothness and give of the material, I wasn’t impressed with the lack of firmness factor. I found self penetration to be really difficult as the damn thing kept flopping around like a fish out of water. I will say that penetration was not a problem when the Champ was wrangled into a harness and being lead by a second party.

While I originally assumed that the ring of the harness would go around the cock and rest on the balls, because of the suction cup taking up significant real estate against the harness, we found that it worked better if the ring of the harness went around the suction cup itself. This is easily done by squishing up the cup to pull it through the ring. Nice and simple.

Viagra is dispensed like candy, while women are basically being called hysterical. Anyway, times are finally a-changin'. The NY Times speaks up.

When a woman complains of genital pain so severe that it makes sexual intercourse all but impossible, her partner may jump to the conclusion that she has a phobia about sex. But what if that same woman also experiences excruciating pain when trying to insert a tampon, undergo a pelvic exam, wear a pair of jeans, ride a bicycle or go jogging? Can phobia explain all those problems?

Not very likely. In fact, studies have shown that sexual phobias are rarely the explanation for a condition known as vulvodynia, a chronic discomfort of the vulva that can result in searing or shooting pain when any amount of pressure is placed on the sensitized tissues. Some women compare the feeling to acid being poured on an open wound.

The problem can last months, years or a lifetime. Worse, doctors often misdiagnose it or treat it inappropriately, if at all.

For decades, women suffering from vulvodynia have been told that nothing seems to be wrong with them — nothing, that is, that the examining physician can discern — or that the condition may be real but that nothing can be done.

Dawn O' Keefe, an abstinence-promoting, squeaky clean high-schooler quickly realizes something is going on with her vagina after she is basically date raped. With a little Internet research and chilling trip to the gyno she figures out that she has vagina dentata, or a toothed vagina. Horrified at first, Dawn slowly realizes the power she possesses within herself (cheesy cliche made into an even cheesier pun, thank you).

Ok, now for what I thought of it. Wow. I wasn't sure what to expect really. I was thinking it was going to be more along the lines of a horror movie, but it was more a black comedy with little spurts of gore here and there. And I really wasn't expecting the social commentary on women's sexuality and empowerment by any means necessary. After Dawn learns what's going on in her vagina, she realizes that she can control it as well, and uses her "gift" to avenge the continuous sexual (both mental and physical) assault that she endures. Kinda like Batman, but so much better.

So, back to the commentary about women's sexuality, I think this fairly overt way of putting a "victim" back in the role of power and having her find strength or defense against reoccurring sexual trauma was accomplished in a really unique and engaging way within the story. The movie uses the culture of fear that our country is creating around sex (abstinence-only programs) and takes it one step further to include the equally fear-inducing idea of women's sexuality and women's agency as sexual beings. Mix that with our society's preoccupation with the vagina as a totally mysterious and even dangerous place and boom, you've got yourself one hell of an intense place to start a storyline. Then add some teeth to the vag to manifest that fear into something tangible to fight.

Oh, and I just need to mention the subtle reference to Georgia O' Keeffe with Dawn's last name (though it's not spelled the same). I know it could not just be coincidence that they name her something so close to the famed vagina flower painter.

Welcome to Friday people. Sorry about the lack of updates yesterday. Construction fumes forced us out of the office early, so no time for posting. Not that I'm complaining - I never complain when daytime tv is involved, especially The Golden Girls. Please, who doesn't love Sophia??

Up this time is one of my favorite bands - The Gossip. So, apparently today is Blue Monday, the most depressing day of the year. It's also Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but from what I gather, the two are not related. Good, cause that would be kinda messed up. And tomorrow is the 35th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Busy week, huh.

First let me say, I have many toys and when I’m purchasing more, I tend to go for the same style. I’m not sure what it is. I guess it’s because I know what works and what does not. Why test the waters with such an important issue?

I’m happy to say that I have the fortunate opportunity to test and write a review about a new toy. I got the package in the mail and didn’t know what to expect. Once opened, I thought, ‘well, that’s different than what I have.’ It’s a Starburst from VIBRATEX. I said out loud, “It probably won’t work.” I set myself up for a letdown. Therefore, I waited about a week and a half before I even took it out of the clear box. It sat there upside down on my dresser, just waiting for me to make the move.

Finally I just bit the bullet and said, ‘why not. It’s closer right now than all my other toys, which are tucked far away under the bed.’

First, I turned the massager on and it was quite loud. However, once things got heated, I didn’t even hear the noise anymore. I was in la la land. The length of the massager is longer than my other massagers, therefore allowing more up and down stimulating without leaving the surface of my hot spots.

Next there is a fringed 100% Elastomer Sleeve Tickler, which sent me over the edge. I had never even thought of getting something like a tickler. I thought they looked kind of strange. I didn’t know the additional stimulation that you receive with it. Now with my other toys, I’m thinking of things that I can attach to them that can give me that same feel. My other toys are not waterproof as this is, which means my time will not be shared equally among my toy friends.

Let me try to explain the feeling; once your juices are flowing, or you get out the special sauce, the tickler moves very easily up and down from top to bottom, causing an almost overwhelming feeling on your clit. The feeling for me was so new and erotic that I didn’t want to allow myself to let it end. So, I kept going back and forth with the up and down, then just resting with the cup and then up and down. Oh man, is it a slow news day or what?!? I did find this while trolling the Craig's List best of last night...

For Sale - beautiful pink "vagina couch" that I made in art school and no longer have space for. The couch is large: measures 5' 3" long, 3' 3" wide at the middle, and stands 2' 3" tall (and is heavy like a couch). The pics are from my portfolio and are several years old; as a result, the couch has some scuffmarks and stains around the bottom from being moved, but otherwise is in excellent shape. Hmm... Can Someone Say Overcompensation?

Well, it's about time that someone did something about this totally bizarre trend of affixing rubber testicles to a truck's trailer hitch. Yeah, that's what that picture is if you couldn't figure it out.

It's one thing to dangle fuzzy dice from a rear view mirror, but decorating a trailer hitch with a large pair of rubber testicles might be a bit much in Virginia.

State Del. Lionel Spruill introduced a bill Tuesday to ban displaying replicas of human genitalia on vehicles, calling it a safety issue because it could distract other drivers.

Under his measure, displaying the ornamentation on a motor vehicle would be a misdemeanor punishable by a maximum fine of $250.

Miracle Massager

I’ve played with massager/wand vibes before and while they all deliver vibrations unparalleled to any other toy, some are definitely better than others. Because it feels like somebody actually took the time to think about some of the grievances voiced toward other massagers and do something about them, the Miracle Massager elicits a mind-blowing orgasm in about, oh, five seconds. Not all the complaints were addressed - but really, it’s a step in the right direction.

My favorite design change is the massager’s vibrating head, which is now contoured and on a spring. The new flexibility is perfect for added dexterity and helps it remain on the clit if there is any wiggling involved. Also, the curved ergonomic design makes it so much easier to get a good grip on the handle, as well as reach the power/speed switch, which really is important, because who wants the added work of straining or searching when you need to flip that switch.

And speaking of the switch… I have the same complaint as so many massager/wand users, that there are only two speeds. The low speed is a bit slow for me, but once I flick on the high speed, it doesn’t take long before I am looking for an even higher speed to get off. Not that the high speed isn’t crazy powerful, it’s just that I like an added jolt of speed when it’s go time. This is where a middle setting would come in great. I’m not sure if the Magic Wand Controller would work with this toy, but it works with the Hitachi Magic Wand to create a larger variety of speeds.

Other than lamenting over the limited speed control, the only other downside I can think of for this toy is volume - which can be a major concern for some. Holy crap is this vibe loud! Monster truck in your bedroom loud. I guess it comes with the territory when you’re dealing with plug-in wand/massager vibes, but I don’t live alone (or 20 miles from my closest neighbor, for that matter) and though I don’t care if my roommate knows I’m gettin’ busy, I’d rather not announce it by overpowering the TV volume. Ok, I’m exaggerating, but really, it’s loud.

Also, can’t forget to mention that the red and black casing is a nice touch and far more interesting (and hotter!) than plain old white. All in all, a very good toy that will remain at the top of my toychest.

Goodbye AVN, Hello Macworld

Alright, so no more AVN posts for me. It's over. Done. The fork is stuck in. Lucky for all you show junkies (me included, of course) and San Franciscans, Macworld opened today. My nerdy little iHeart flutters a bit. tee hee.

Well, AVN 2008 may be over and done, but a bunch of our favorite studios and movies walked away with some pretty damn impressive awards this year.

A few highlights include:

Women seeking Women from Girlfriends Films won Best Series

Belladonna's Manhandled won Best Continuing Video Series and her Manhandled 2 picked up Best Director - Non-Feature

abbywinters Intimate Moments won Best Amateur Series

Adam & Eve's Afrodite Superstar was awarded Best Music

Fashionistas Safado: Berlin walked away with Best Art Direction - Video, Best Director - Video, Best Editing - Video, Best Group Sex Scene - Video, Best High-Definition Production AND Best Three-way Sex Scene. Wow!
